So far...

Hi all. The past couple of weeks have been very busy. I am very thankful for ALL the help that I am receiving from everyone. Every little bit helps. My students are just about finished with their Keynotes and Comic Life posters. We will record today...hopefully...the PSAs on Sun Safety and be ready to edit them tomorrow. There is a lot to be done in the next couple of weeks. The kids are having a total blast learning new information and using the technology. It's a learning experience for me too! Hope everyone has a wonderful week!!! :) Jill

Notetaking for First Graders

All last week our First Graders were researching and taking notes. We started by assessing students' prior knowledge. Students created Kidspiration bubble maps where they inserted pictures and phrases of what students already knew about staying safe at the beach and the pool. Then we moved into researching and collecting data. Students created notebooks with page headings (2 pages for bike safety, 2 pages for pool safety, 1 page for water park safety, 2 pages for beach safety). All last week we watched videos, read books, and researched on websites about pool safety. Students took notes using the circle map, bubble map, and created lists. Students worked individually, with partners, and in small groups to take the notes. We also called students up to use the Promethean Board to model how to take the notes and examples of what to write down.

Using Kerpoof

Today we used the website "Kerpoof" with our First Graders. Students were paired together (one student from my class and one student from Mrs Scott's class) and had to choose either a beach setting or a pool setting. The students each added a character (person or animal) and had to give them a speech bubble stating a beach or pool safety rule. Students could use their notebooks as information to add to the speech bubble. Overall, it was a good experience. Students were very talkative but on-task. The website was very kid-friendly and easy to navigate

Hi!

Hi everyone! I am a witness to Ms. Scott and Ms. Schrader's first grade bloggers. They designed their own stories today using Kerpoof. Ms. Pavlick's class is finishing up their Keynotes and Comic Life posters and they are ready to begin making their Public Service Announcement. Ms. Scalese's class did their experiment with different types of cups today. You are all doing such a great job!!! :-)

Swimming into GLIDES Week2

We are still gathering research about pool safety and we're moving slowly into water park and beach safety. THANK YOU to Jaclyn for all her help with the ELMO and the Image software!!! That will be so helpful to me even when GLIDES is done. I hope to learn as many new things as I can in this short amount of time....

Students have been BLOGGING! Yes first graders are blogging.... They seem to like seeing their words on the internet. We could do this for nine weeks and get so much out of it....but we're in a crunch time, so we'll do the best we can.

Next week we need to do our final project with water safety and move into bicycle safety.

End of Week 1

Hi everyone! What a week! I have been getting along okay...I think. I need to thank Ms. Moran for coming in on Tuesday to help me get off on the right foot. I have had my kids do some gathering of information about their topic. Unfortunately, due to Early Release I only had 11 kids in my class yesterday. It would not have made any sense to go on. Therefore, today we are going to compose a graphic organizer on Kidspiration and print them out. We are also going to take a look at Destiny Quest. I would appreciate any ideas/planning info that I should do for next week! Have a great weekend, Jill :)

First Day

Hello everyone!

Very busy morning. Introduced GLIDES to first grade and then brainstormed what they know.
Used Kidspriration to make a web and printed them out. Students said they liked working with a partner and some said they we not happy having to share the computer. All students were happy about using color and pictures in their web.

Thanks to Susannah for helping us so much!
